FAQ’s
Some common curtain FAQ’s are answered below. Please do call us with your questions so we can deliver the perfect Cuchi curtain experience.
There is no standard curtain drop as such. All the curtains we install are custom made based on your window and the space available around them. There are, however, typical curtain drops found in more modern homes. Single level homes typically have around a 2.4m ceiling height, but we’re now seeing many homes that are around the 2.7m – 2.9m ceiling heights. If the curtain track is installed into the ceiling, that will be about the drop of the curtains as well. If it is fitted to the wall then, the drop will depend on the size of your window.
Choosing the right sized curtains can be complicated, which is why our team of consultants are here to help you make the correct choice for your space. There are a number of different factors that we take into consideration, including:
- Ceiling height
- The size of the window in comparison to the wall
- The space that is available around your window
- Whether or not there is space to ‘park’ the curtain when not in use (If there is room to put the curtain away from the window to let light in when not being used)
- Option of a ceiling-fitted curtain or a wall-fitted curtain
- Consider if a minimalistic track or a decorative track is being used.
These factors, and many others, will help determine how high and wide the curtain will go. Sometimes that is done to make the window look bigger as well as to allow the most possible light into the room.
It is important to have professional help with choosing the right curtains because there are so many things to consider. Selecting the wrong curtains will drastically change the look and feel of your whole room, so it’s important to get it right. All the colours may cost the same, but choosing the wrong one can be a costly mistake.
Typically for a living room we suggest that you use a single layer curtain that will allow privacy and protect your floor coverings and furniture from harmful UV rays. It’s also key to consider aesthetics, and to find the right colours and fabrics to match your interior design style without distracting from the furnishings. Unless you truly have your heart set on bold feature curtains, we always recommend choosing curtains that will stand the test of time and that won’t be affected too much by changing styles and trends. You want to select curtains that you will love for at least the next fifteen years.
We typically recommend double layer curtains in the bedroom – a sheer that will give you privacy and protect your furniture and floor coverings from UV rays while allowing light in, and a second layer that will make the room fully dark for sleep. Again, you also need to consider what style of curtains will fit in with your decor and continue to look great for years to come.
When it comes to curtains, we work with all fabric types. Linen has been a very popular fabric choice in the last couple of years, however we always remind clients that all natural fibres such as linen, cotton and silk will be more susceptible to fading and deterioration caused by the sun. They simply do not have the same longevity as synthetic fibres. If you love the look of linen or cotton but don’t want to sacrifice too much durability, you might consider a blend such as a 50% linen 50% polyester blend. This offers you the best of both worlds, significantly increasing the durability of the natural fibre.
‘Drapes’ and ‘curtains’ are just different names for the same type of window furnishings, although it is no longer common to hear curtains referred to as drapes in Australia. Sometimes people refer to drapes when they are talking about more traditional curtains because the older term is more associated with these styles.
